Bates Named NCHA Player of the Year, Five Earn League Honors

DE PERE - St. Norbert College junior Peter Bates leads five Green Knights who received Northern Collegiate Hockey Association season honors as announced by the league office.

Bates was named NCHA Player of the Year, joining sophomore forward Peyton Frantti and sophomore defenseman Brendon Gysbers on the All-NCHA team. It is the first All-NCHA selection for all three. Defenseman Brendan Aird and goaltender Colby Entz were selected to the NCHA All-Freshman Team.

Bates, an Evanston, Ill., native, becomes the tenth St. Norbert player to be named NCHA Player of the Year, and the first since Erik Cooper was chosen in 2016. Bates currently leads the NCHA in scoring with 40 points, totaling 15 goals and 25 assists in 28 games. He has four power-play and three game-winning goals.

Frantti, a Spring Grove, Ill., native, is third on the Green Knights in scoring with 33 points, registering 14 goals and 19 assists in 28 games. Frantti has two power-play, one shorthanded and one game-winning goals this season.

Gysbers, a Fond du Lac native, has scored four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 21 games. Gysbers has four power-play goals with one game-winning marker on the year.

Aird, an Orland Park, Ill., native, has totaled five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 27 games. Aird has two power-play goals this season.

Entz, a Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, native, owns a 12-2-2 record in goal with a 1.81 goals against average and .929 save percentage. Entz has three shutouts in 17 starts this season.
