St. Norbert Falls In Four Sets To Illinois Tech

DE PERE - St. Norbert College fell 3-1 to Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. The Scarlet Hawks defeated the Green Knights 25-16, 25-22, 28-30, 25-21.

The Green Knights were tied with Illinois Tech 22-22 in the second set before the Scarlet Hawks closed out the set with three straight points. St. Norbert then fashioned a hard-fought win in the third set after trailing 24-21. Following an Illinois Tech attacking error, a Sean Loughney service ace brought the Green Knights to within 24-23. A pair of Illinois Tech attacking errors then put St. Norbert up 25-24, but the two teams would trade the next seven points to tie the set 28-28. Josh Hauke then had a kill and followed with a service ace to finish off the set victory.

In the fourth set, the Green Knights trailed 20-17 before getting to within 21-20, but Illinois Tech would score four of the next five points to seal the match.

St. Norbert hit .093, getting 35 kills with 25 errors in 107 attempts. Loughney and Ben Rinella shared the team lead in kills with nine apiece. Rinella added 17 assists and Eddie Pacula added 15 helpers. Loughney and Henry Christensen had eight digs apiece, while Hauke, Jake Bettag and Morgan Wilson all had two blocks apiece.

Illinois Tech hit .220, with 45 kills and 21 errors in 109 attempts. Andriy Bench had a match-high 21 kills for the Scarlet Hawks.
