Summer sizzles with arts and entertainment for all

Classes aren’t the only thing buzzing on campus this summer. The campus is alive with entertainment offerings for all. Whether you want a place to sit on the grass and enjoy music along the river, or to experience a little culture inside the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts, the campus has it on offer. Here are some of the events taking place this summer:

Knights on the Fox

Stroll down to the river for some early-evening fresh air, food and music. The popular outdoor summer concert series, Knights on the Fox, returns for its fourth season on the St. Norbert College campus.

The Thompson Marina is home to this five-week series held on Tuesday evenings beginning July 11. All concerts are free and open to the public. There is even a special alumni night.

“The King and I”

"The King and I,” to be presented July 13-23 in the Walter Theatre, is directed by James Birder '73 and choreographed by Alicia Birder '80. Greg Kaye '05 is serving as technical director and set and lighting designer, while Pam Wagner MacMullen '67 and Rita Jonet Baretta ’86 will perform the principal roles of Lady Thiang and Tuptim, respectively.

Many of the 100-plus participants in the upcoming production of "The King and I" are a part of the St. Norbert community. The cast and crew includes 13 St. Norbert alumni, three faculty and staff members, five students and 16 children or grandchildren of alumni.

Alumni are encouraged to attend this Music Theatre 45th anniversary production, which marks the 69th musical produced by Dudley Birder since he founded the group in 1962. Over the past 45 years the summer musicals at St. Norbert College have become must-see events.

“Man of La Mancha”

Round Table Productions will be presenting “Man of La Mancha.” The show, which runs Aug. 10-19, is the story of Don Quixote, who dared to “dream the impossible dream.”

Greg Kaye ’05 is the set and technical designer for the show. He studied at Notre Dame Academy with Steven Stary, who will be the director. Stary is new to the Webb Theatre stage, but has been working with Knight Theatre for more than three years.

The show is cast with 21 members from the Green Bay and Fox Cities communities.

“Kids From Wisconsin”

Many St. Norbert College students and alumni have been a part of “The Kids From Wisconsin” over its 35-year history. This singing and dancing group is made up of high school and college-age students from all over the state. The Northeast Wisconsin Kiwanis Club will be sponsoring their presentation Aug. 17 in the Walter Theatre.
