Postgraduate service leads to guest appearance on Chicago radio station

Linda Maier ’09 was a recent guest on Chicago talk radio, where she spoke about her decision to dedicate a year to service.

Maier has taken a yearlong commitment to faith-based community living and service through the Amate House program. Amate House (amate is derived from the Latin verb for ‘love in action’) is the young adult volunteer program for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

During her half-hour morning show appearance on Relevant Radio Sept. 18, Maier was asked why she decided to apply for the program. She said, “I’ve got my whole life to work, so I’ve really been drawn to service. Why not do it now?”

A May graduate, Maier majored in religious studies with an emphasis in youth ministry.

The 35 young adults serving as full-time volunteers at Amate House are spread throughout Chicago. Maier serves at Blessed Sacrament Youth Program, at Our Lady of Good Council Church.

In past years, Amate House has seen other St. Norbert alumni residents. They include Julie (Donovan) Massey ’87 (who later worked for Amate House for two years); the Rev. Jim Neilson, O.Praem., ’88; Brian Kittinger ’99; Maureen Doody Johnson ’99; and Kevin Krainz ’07.
