Update to students: Information from SNC housing

March 19, 2020

Dear SNC students,

By now you should have read the email from President Bruess that was sent Wednesday, March 18. Due to increasing state guidance regarding the concern of the spread of COVID-19, we are asking all students to move out of campus housing as soon as possible. We are working to try to make this transition for you as smooth as possible, given the circumstances at this time.

Your Area Coordinator will be sending an email to you with further information on a checkout process later today. If you are currently on campus, please plan on moving out by the end of this weekend. If you are currently away from campus, we will be scheduling move-out times from March 20 through March 31. Instructions for selecting a move-out time will be included in the email from your Area Coordinator. Hours available will be from 8-8 p.m. daily, through March 31. Students unable to return to campus by March 31 due to distance or health, should be in touch with their Area Coordinator about making alternate arrangements.

A few general notes:

  • First and foremost, if you (or the people who would be assisting you in moving out) are ill with a fever, cough, shortness of breath (even with mild symptoms) or ordered to be home on quarantine, please do not schedule a move out appointment. In these situations, please work with your individual Area Coordinator to set up a time at a later date.
  • We will not be able to store any personal property or allow you to leave things behind. We have heard that U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage to students who have to move due to precautions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
  • This will be an ‘express/self-checkout’ process. During your 1-2 hour checkout window, you will be able to swipe/key into your building, pack your belongings and move them to your vehicle, clean your room, and drop your key off at a specific location in a provided key envelope. REH staff will do inspections of your space for damages at a later date.
  • Please plan on bringing your own cleaning supplies and a cart, if needed, as these items will be unavailable to you.
You are being asked to only bring 1-2 people with you to assist in your move out. We will limit the number of residents allowed per hour through the sign up process to follow the CDC guidelines on social gatherings of no more than 10 people.

We will be directly in touch with international students and students who we know have special circumstances, for whom moving off campus will be more difficult, to provide extra support and the appropriate accommodations.

We ask for your patience and understanding in these challenging times. Please watch your SNC email account for further information and announcements.

Stay Healthy,

Joe Totman, Ed.D.
