Updates on Vaccination, Testing and Face-Covering Policy

Dear faculty, staff and student employees,

The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving, and the President’s Cabinet continues to meet regularly to share insights from area health organizations and to consider how new variants of the virus might impact college operations. Though we’ve been through almost two full years of the pandemic, it’s as important as ever to remain nimble in our approach, and we value your ongoing patience and understanding. 

Late last week, the stay halting OSHA’s emergency temporary standard was lifted, allowing OSHA to begin requiring organizations with more than 100 employees to mandate COVID-19 vaccination OR adopt a policy requiring employees to either be vaccinated or undergo regular COVID-19 testing and wear a face covering at work. That standard prompted St. Norbert College to develop the Vaccination, Testing and Face Covering Policy

Under the policy informed by the OSHA standard, all college employees – including full- and part-time faculty, staff and student workers – who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be required to complete testing at least once every seven days. The OSHA standard begins Jan. 10; however, OSHA is giving employers additional time to set up testing policies. The college has not made a final decision regarding our testing implementation date, but we anticipate it will begin no later than the week of Jan. 24. More information will be sent as soon as it’s available. In the meantime, we invite you to review these frequently asked questions.

Thank you to all who completed the COVID-19 vaccine tracking form in preparation for the new policy. If you haven’t yet submitted your tracking form, please do so today. 

We also encourage all community members to get their COVID-19 booster shots, if you haven’t already done so. Booster shots have been shown to increase protection against COVID-19 illness, and we are beginning to hear from local and state health leaders that the CDC may change the definition of fully vaccinated to include a booster shot. Please report additional doses of vaccine to Human Resources via the COVID-19 vaccine tracking form.

As we head into the Christmas break, we’d like to express how grateful we are to each of you for your hard work and diligence in keeping our community safe. We truly appreciate the sacrifices being made and the care that all our employees are taking to ensure the safety of our community, whether that takes the form of being fully vaccinated or of being tested weekly for COVID-19.
