Update to masking protocols

Feb. 16, 2022

Dear SNC community,

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the college has taken great care in providing a safe environment for our entire college community, with college leadership regularly and diligently reviewing our policies and making changes as warranted. As we’ve encountered fluctuations in transmission rates in surrounding areas as well as new variants, the SNC community has demonstrated that we can live with the virus in a relatively safe manner.

For that reason, the college will begin to shift COVID-19 policies to a posture that 1) recognizes that COVID-19 likely will be present for the foreseeable future, 2) allows us to continue taking reasonable precautions, and 3) facilitates our ability to deliver the best living and learning environment for our students.

College leadership has been working to develop a phased approach to easing some of our COVID-19 mitigation strategies. Effective today, Feb. 16, face masks will be optional when in college residence halls and dining facilities.

This change is possible due to a decrease in community transmission rates and in active cases on campus, reduced incidence of COVID-19 detected during surveillance testing on campus (view the On-Campus Testing section of the COVID-19 Dashboard), and guidance from public health experts who continue to predict a decreasing trajectory.

However, as pandemic conditions are still present throughout the nation, the college will continue implementing the following masking requirements. Violations of these protocols are subject to disciplinary action.

  • Masking will continue to be required in other indoor areas on campus, except personal workspaces. At this time, community members will be expected to wear masks when entering campus buildings, but may choose to remove masks when they enter Ruth’s Marketplace, Dale’s, Phil’s and Ed’s.
  • Additional masking and/or quarantine requirements are in place for those who test positive for COVID-19 and those who are identified as close contacts. Review the Isolation of Positive Cases and Quarantine of Close Contacts sections of the St. Norbert College COVID-19 Guidelines.
While this is a key milestone, please understand that this is a significant change for many. Please respect anyone who decides to continue wearing a mask, and continue showing one another the kindness, compassion and understanding that are hallmarks of our St. Norbert College community.

College leadership continues to meet regularly to evaluate the college’s approach to the COVID-19 pandemic. As with all COVID-19 protocols, this revised policy is subject to change based on evolving conditions.

We’d also like to remind you that Health Services continues to provide COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots; make an appointment by emailing health@snc.edu or calling 920-403-3266. Vaccination is one of the best ways to avoid serious COVID-19 complications and hospitalization.

For more detailed information on the college’s COVID-19 protocols, please review the St. Norbert College COVID-19 Guidelines.
