Green Initiative Fund

Approved through a college-wide student referendum, the Green Initiative Fund demonstrates a student commitment to environmental stewardship at St. Norbert College. Each semester, each full-time student's GIF fee of $7.50 is allocated to this fund which is used to develop environmental projects to promote the sustainability of the college.

Green Initiative Fund Project Proposals
Have you noticed something around campus that could us an environmental updated or have a suggestion for how to improve the sustainability on campus?  If so, please submit your thoughts through the following process.

Please submit your project proposals through the on-line submission form.  The selection of project proposals will be done by the Green Initiative Fund Student Committee and will be decided upon by the criteria listed below and by the amount of GIF funds available. All projects will be forwarded to the appropriate campus department to get a cost estimate and feasability recommendation.  Applications are accepted year round, and from any member of the St. Norbert College Community. All applications will be researched and the person that submitted the project will be notified of the projects status.  An explanation of why a propsal was not funded will be given.  Some proposals may be put on a wait list until funds become available.

Criteria for Proposals
The Green Initiative Fund at St. Norbert College was developed to help students implement impactful sustainable initiatives on campus. Such initiatives are intended to reduce the overall impact of this institution and the campus community on the environment. We would ask that any project applications include proposed costs, implementation costs, benefit for the campus community and details about how the item(s) would be used.  This application may be as long or short as you'd like, though it should convey the environmental focus of your project and it's impact on campus and to the student body.  The following guidelines are taken from the bylaws of the GIF funding for determining which projects are approved:

  • The money generated by the fee must be spent on sustainable initiatives that will benefit the campus community as a whole, rather than individual groups or persons. No "personal gain" requests will be considered.
  • The GIF is a student initiative. All St. Norbert College students, faculty and staff are eligible to propose projects for funding. Students maintain this initiative and its focus on students by their approval of the funds.
  • The GIF committee will select projects that create lasting change in our campus community. While one-time programs and events may be considered, this fund is to be directed at projects that permanently reduce the college community's environmental footprint.
  • Priority will be given to projects that reduce waste and conserve resources. Projects that can produce quantifiable impact will be given preference, though all applications will be considered in light of perceived benefit to the community.
  • The GIF will give preference to projects that require a single investment and produce a lasting impact and benefit to the College and the community.
