Summer Housing Process 2014
HALL CLOSING INFORMATION FOR RESIDENCE HALLS
The residence halls close on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. The residence halls are Bergstrom, Burke, Madelaine/Lorraine, MMM, Michels, Sensenbrenner and VMC. Housing after the residence halls close on Saturday, May 17 is called Summer Housing.
Students assisting or participating in graduation ceremonies can request summer housing only through Monday, May 19. All students who have been approved to stay due to graduation must be moved out of Bergstrom, Madelaine/Lorraine, MMM, Michels, Sensenbrenner and VMC halls by Monday, May 19 at 12:00 p.m.
A checkout time needs to be scheduled with an REH staff member at least 24 hrs in advance. If a student fails to schedule the checkout in advance and/or complete the check out on the date and time indicated, a $75 improper checkout fee will be assessed. Additional charges may apply if keys are not returned or the room is damaged or unclean.
HALL CLOSING INFORMATION FOR UPPER CLASS HOUSING AREAS
The upper class housing areas close on Tuesday, May 20 at 12:00 p.m. These areas include Carriage House, College Houses, Convent, Gries, Rectory, Riverside, Townhouses and Vander Zanden. Housing requests after the upper class areas close on Tuesday, May 20 is called Summer Housing. Information about upper class housing area summer housing options after May 20 is listed under summer housing options. There are no summer options available for Riverside and Vander Zanden.
HOW TO APPLY
Summer housing spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Summer housing is available from Saturday, May 17, 2014 to Saturday, August 2, 2014. The deadline for applying for summer housing is Friday, May 9, 2014. After that date, your application will be considered based on availability.

To apply , go to Knightline > Student Services > Residential Education and Housing > Additional Housing Request
If you are applying and your housing will be covered by a College department (academic, athletics, etc), you still need to apply via Knightline. In the comments, the student should explain the reason for the stay and which department will be covering their housing charges. REH will confirm the dates and the reason with the department. If the student applies to stay for more days than the department allows, the student will be billed for any additional days at the daily rate that applies to the area in which the student is staying.
SUMMER HOUSING OPTIONS
Burke Hall (Summer Housing for May term and all summer)
Burke will be the summer housing residence hall. It will be available from Sunday, May 18, 2014 until Saturday, August 2, 2014. Cost is $15.00 per day and space may be limited. Students requesting housing after August 2, 2014 until the academic year will need to apply for Early Arrival Housing.
Gries, Premontre and Xanten 2014-2015 residents
Gries Hall opens on Sunday, June 1, 2014 and Premontre/Xanten Halls open on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Students requesting housing after hall closing can apply to live in Sensenbrenner Hall until their 2014-2015 housing contract begins.
Gries residents will be charged $100.00 from May 20 – June 1 and Premontre/Xanten residents will be charged $200.00 from May 20 – June 15 for staying in Sensenbrenner Hall.
Students living in Gries Hall during the 2013-2014 academic year and have been re-assigned for the 2014-2015 academic year can remain in the Gries hall during the transition time. Students will be charged $100.00. Please note on your application that you qualify for this and a staff member from the Office of Residential Education and Housing will contact you to work out the logistics of your move from this year’s placement to next year’s placement.
College House (May term only or until Student Teaching is completed)
Students who are currently living in a college house and are planning to take May term classes or student teaching may apply to stay in their current assignment past Tuesday, May 20, 2014. The latest students may stay in those assignments is Saturday, June 7, 2014 unless they are completing a student teaching assignment. The resident’s student teaching schedule will determine the length of their housing extension.
If you know of someone that is living in a college house that is also staying for May term AND has vacancies, you may request to move in with that person until June 7, 2014.
The cost to remain in a college house is $19.00 per day. Utilities are included.
Carriage House and Townhouses
The majority of Carriage House apartments and Townhouses will not be available for housing after May 20 due to summer conferences. Students interested in staying past May 20 in the Carriage House apartments or Townhouses should contact REH in advance to see if it would be available. If available, the cost would be $19.00 per day until May Term ends on Saturday, June 7. Students can stay in their Carriage House apartment or Townhouse until their student teaching assignment is completed (if available).
Summer Meal Plan
For those students staying on campus during the summer, there are some meal plan options available. To find information or sign up for a summer meal plan, please visit the Campus Card website.
Summer Housing Check-In
Students will check in with a summer staff member. Students assigned to Burke or Sensenbrenner can move in on Sunday, May 18 from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Students must move out of the seven residence halls by Monday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m.
Summer housing billing begins on Saturday, May 17, 2014 for students who lived in one of seven residence halls during the academic year. The academic year contract ends on Tuesday, May 20 for students living in Gries, College Houses, Carriage House and Townhouses. For students living in one of these areas and requesting summer housing, billing will begin on Tuesday, May 20. Students will be charged according to the dates requested on the summer housing application.
A one week notice in writing is required to the Department of Residential Education and Housing in order to void the summer housing contract.
Summer Housing Checkout
All students need to check out according to the date indicated on the summer housing form or by Saturday, August 2, 2014. A check out time needs to be scheduled with a REH staff member. The staff member will check the room condition, collect keys and verify that the room is clean. If a student fails to check out on the date and time indicated on the application, a $75 improper checkout fine will be assessed.
