Mitchell Scott

Collection Management Librarian

B.A., Murray State University (History)
M.A., University of Louisville (History)
M.L.I.S., University of Kentucky (Library and Information Science)

Mitchell Scott joined the Mulva Library in August 2017 as the collection management librarian. He previously held the collection assessment librarian position at UW-Milwaukee and the resource sharing librarian position at UW-Green Bay.

As the collection management librarian, Mitchell is responsible for overseeing the library’s collection budget, evaluating how subscribed and purchased resources are meeting campus needs, and for identifying new materials and subscription models that benefit the campus community.

Managing the library collection also makes Mitchell responsible for how library users (both on and off campus) access materials that are a part of the library collection and for pursuing new ways to provide a more intuitive access experience. He also supervises the document delivery service and has experience in using document delivery data to identify and fill collection gaps and make better collection decisions.

Mitchell has been active in library research and in discussing his research at national conferences. He has published articles on the correlation of library use to student success and on how library usage data can be used to make evidence-based decisions about library collections.

His non-library interests include dabbling in Python programming, listening to music, enjoying craft beer and spending time outside.
