De Pere: Alie Sheriff, Paramount Chief of the Jong Chiefdom in Sierra Leone, Africa will speak at St. Norbert College Thursday, April 29 from 4-6 p.m. in the Ray Van Den Heuvel Family Campus Center. Sheriff will discuss the causes and resulting damage of civil war in Sierra Leone, including discussion of political upheaval, child soldiers, peace building efforts, and international awareness and aid. The presentation is free and open to the public. Sheriff holds the symbolic staff of the Sheriff dynasty and an advanced Higher Teachers Certificate. Prior to his election in 2002 as Paramount Chief, Sheriff worked as an elementary school teacher, was a national delegate to the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, and served as Headmaster of District Education Committee School in his hometown of Mongere Wa.
