St. Norbert College receives mathematical grant

DE PERE: St. Norbert College has for the third consecutive year been awarded a grant to support its undergraduate mathematics conference. The grant is in the amount of $1500 and was awarded by the Mathematical Association of America through its Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conference program. The grant was funded by the National Science Foundation. The twentieth annual St. Norbert College Pi Mu Epsilon Regional Undergraduate Math Conference will be receiving the grant funds and will take place on November 4-5, 2005. This event is free and open to the public. Alex Hahn, professor of mathematics from the University Notre Dame, will be the conference's featured speaker. Hahn's work focuses on Algebra, Number Theory, and the history of science. Conference lectures will include "The Legacy of Galileo Galilei: Pubic Intellectual and Scientist" and "The Legacy of Galileo Galilei: The Mathematics and Mechanics of Balls on Inclined Planes."
