Craig Ford, assistant professor of theology and religious studies at St. Norbert College, won the Catherine Mowry LaCunga Award for new scholars at the Catholic Theological Society of America’s (CTSA) 76th annual convention held in Atlanta June 9-12.

The award is given for the best academic essay in the field of theology within the Roman Catholic tradition.

“Winning the LaCugna award is nothing short of an extraordinary honor,” said Ford. “I truly stand on the shoulders of giants, both those of my past teachers and those of my theology colleagues at St. Norbert. I hope that my article, “Our New Galileo Affair," can help bring about dialogue and healing that the Roman Catholic Church needs in order to continue to be a better church on issues related to gender and sexuality,” Ford added.
The purpose of the award is to support the theological endeavors of new scholars and to encourage new scholars in the field to communicate their research among theologians and with scholars in other disciplines.

Ford, who joined the faculty at St. Norbert College in 2019, received a plaque and $750 for his winning essay.
