Former NFL quarterback Don McPherson, who uses his sports platform to bring dialogue to social issues, will present “Calling an Audible: Aspirational Masculinity and the Possibility of Sport,” on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Ft. Howard Theatre at the F.K. Bemis International Center on the St. Norbert College campus.

The registration deadline for this event is Thursday, Oct. 20. To register, go to http://snc.edu/go/undefeated-kickoff.

Before the program at 7 p.m., plan to gather at the Cassandra Voss Center (311 Grant St.) for drinks and hors d'oeuvres from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to chat with McPherson and spend some time at the CVC.

The Cassandra Voss Center’s theme for this academic year is, “UNDEFEATED: Pursuing Justice through the Power of Sport.”

Sport is a defining aspect of cultures throughout the world, and it can bring communities together in dynamic ways. It is also a critical site to think about issues of identity and power and can function as a powerful vehicle for social change.

Don McPherson is a college football hall of famer, former NFL quarterback, entrepreneur, author, and anti-violence advocate who uses his sports platform to bring dialogue to critical social issues.

As an All-American athlete, McPherson captained his undefeated 1987 Syracuse University football team, set 22 school records, led the nation in passing, and won more than 18 national “player of the year awards.” As a seven-season NFL veteran, McPherson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.

Since hanging up his cleats, McPherson has committed his life to addressing critical social issues ranging from drunk driving, alcohol and substance abuse, bullying, and youth leadership and mentoring. In 1995 McPherson narrowed his focus to the issue of gender violence and has worked to engage boys and men in the conversation around violence and masculinity. With over 25 years of experience in this field, McPherson has shared his message with over 250 college campuses, community organizations and national sports and violence prevention organizations, reaching more than 1 million people.
