St. Norbert College will host the 2006 American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Schuldes Sport Center. This event is free and open to the public. The ACS Relay for Life is a unique celebration of life honoring those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Teams of 8-15 people take turns walking or running around a track all day long. Team members camp out on the surrounding grounds for the duration of the event to enjoy the music, food, fun, entertainment and activities while building camaraderie with fellow teammates and participants. Money is raised through team commitment fees and an individual goal of $100 in donations secured from family, friends, companies or corporations. This Relay for Life received special recognition in 2003 and 2004, winning the Per Capita College Fundraising Award in the country. St. Norbert College has been selected to participate in the national Colleges Against Cancer Campus program, which is a program designed to help eliminate cancer by initiating and supporting the programs of the ACS. This program is administered by college students from across the country and is supported by your local ACS. Highlights of the event include a Survivors Lap, a victory lap to celebrate their courageous battle, and a Balluminaria Ceremony, that pays tribute to those affected by cancer. For more information, contact Beth Adamski at beth.adamski@snc.edu or Lisa Valenta at 338-1542, ext. 124.
