St. Norbert College music department hosts the 25th annual Winter BandFest

The St. Norbert College music department presents the 25th annual Winter BandFest on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Walter Theatre, Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts.

The Winter BandFest will feature the St. Norbert College wind ensemble and 2007 Honors Band. Frederick Schmidt, professor of Music, will be conducting throughout the concert.

Pieces to be performed by the wind ensemble include "Symphonic Prelude" by Mark Camphouse, "Radiant Joy" by Steven Bryant and "Scootin' on Hardrock" by David Holsinger.

The Honors Band will follow during the second half of the concert. Selections consist of "Light Cavalry Overture," "Nimrod Variation," "Lassus Trombone" and "Metroplex." This year, the Honors Band received 35 applications from local area schools. The ensemble is comprised of approximately 95 students, the largest applicant pool in St. Norbert College history.

In addition to the wind ensemble and Honors Band, senior piano soloist, David Beck, will be performing Schumann's "Concerto in A Minor" and the saxophone quintet will play Russell Peck's "Drastic Measures."
