The St. Norbert College Masterworks Choral Concert will be held on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Walter Theatre, Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts. The theme of the concert is "The Pride of England." The choir will be performing works by three English composers, Henry Purcell, John Rutter and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The concert will feature area string players, harp, organ, piano and the combined choirs of St. Norbert College. Purcell is regarded as the first great English composer and perhaps the last until the 20th century. He is well known for his ability to set the English language to music. The choir will be singing the "Bell Anthem," which is considered one of his finest and most well-known verse anthems. Rutter is one of the best-known living English composers. The concert will feature "Magnificat," one of his earlier works and is held in high regard for both its complexities and its accessibility to the general public. Lastly, Vaughan Williams has been a favorite English composer for many years. The choir will be performing "In Windsor Forest," a compilation of excerpts from his opera "Sir John in Love," which is inspired by William Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor." The work is full of humor, passion and drama. For more information, contact Holly Huntley at (920) 403-3112 or holly.huntley@snc.edu.
