The 18th annual Tail of the Fox rowing regatta will be held Sunday, Sept. 30 at St. Norbert College. Crews will launch from the Thompson Marina at the Ray Van Den Heuvel Family Campus Center, with picturesque viewing from the riverbank. Racing starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. Admission is free, and spectators are welcome. Nearly 400 athletes from Midwestern colleges and rowing clubs will compete over the 2 1/4 mile course on the Fox River in "head races," where crews row toward the head of the river, then race back single file against the clock. Crews are started 10 seconds apart with ample opportunity to pass slower crews. Athletes range in age from high school youth up to masters in their 60s. Crews will race in single sculls, fours and eights. Crews competing include Northern Michigan University, Michigan Tech, Lawrence University, St. Thomas of Minnesota, Loyola Academy, Mendota Rowing Club of Madison, Fox Valley Rowing Club of Appleton, St. Norbert College and La Baie Verte Rowing Club of De Pere, among others. For more information, contact Roger Shellman at the La Baie Verte Rowing Club at (920) 848-3427 (days) or (920) 499-7475 (evenings).
