The St. Norbert College SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) team returned to De Pere as winners after participating in the Minneapolis, Minn., SIFE regional competition on March 26. The event was one of 16 SIFE regional competitions being held across the United States in March and April. The St. Norbert SIFE team received recognition as a finalist in the entrepreneurship Individual Topic competition. They received $1,000 and a plaque and will find out in May if they place in the national competition. SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that focuses on market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics. During this academic year, the St. Norbert College SIFE team organized four projects in the northeast Wisconsin community, including teaching ethics and financial skills to several area high schools. In addition, they helped St. Catherine's bookstore with marketing and assisted Haven of Hope Daycare in Kimberly, Wis., as a start-up.
"With our help, Haven of Hope Daycare has begun raising money to finance their non-profit start-up in order to serve families with disabled and special needs children," said De Pere sophomore Pat Neuman, who presented at the Minneapolis competition. The St. Norbert College SIFE team was established in 2001.
