SNC’s Academic Centers Focus on Equality, Service, Polling and More

St. Norbert is home to eight academic centers offering exciting opportunities for students to become involved in their varied missions. Impressively, some of them are known across the nation and even around the world. Here are brief descriptions of all eight, plus some takeaways. P.S. Many of the centers offer job opportunities for students, too!

Cassandra Voss Center
This nationally recognized center, known on campus as the CVC, creates innovative and holistic programming focused on gender, identity and inclusion.

Did you know: The CVC awards several scholarships annually to SNC undergrads engaged in women’s and gender studies, and to student leaders providing exceptional community service in the area of social justice.

Center for Business & Economic Analysis
Part of the Donald J. Schneider School of Business & Economics, this center’s mission is to forge relationships with northeastern Wisconsin business and nonprofit communities via collaboration, information-sharing and networking. More specifically, the center looks to assist these groups, in part, by offering some pro bono consulting services, during which it can loop in its top business and economics students so they can deepen their knowledge and skills by working on real-world business issues. Past projects include an economic-impact study of the Green Bay Botanical Garden and a wage survey of Green Bay’s Cerebral Palsy Center.

Did you know: One of the center’s current projects is a market research and site-selection analysis for Recyclist Bicycle Co.

Center for Exceptional Leadership
Another affiliate of the Donald J. Schneider School of Business & Economics, the Center for Exceptional Leadership, established in 2016, brings together experts and certified professionals to coach established and emerging business leaders. Participants can sign on for individual or group instruction.

Did you know: Past participants have come from organizations such as Ariens, Bellin Health, Great Northern Corp., Schreiber Foods, ThedaCare and Thrivent Financial.

Center for Global Engagement
Aimed at international exploration, this is where students learn about studying abroad, internationally focused majors and minors, becoming an exchange student, and more.

Did you know: SNC is one of just two Wisconsin institutions of higher learning that presents the national Great Decisions lecture series, America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. Sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, which annually selects eight critical global issues for discussion, the free program is open to the public. This year’s talks include sessions on climate change, Red Sea security, artificial intelligence and data, and India and Pakistan.

Center for Norbertine Studies
The only such center in the world, this is the place to find information on everything about the college’s founding order, the Norbertines.

Did you know: There are Norbertine abbeys, priories and convents in 23 countries today. The country with the most communities (10) is Brazil.

Norman Miller Center for Peace, Justice & Public Understanding
The Norman Miller Center focuses on working for peace and positive change through awareness, compassion and justice. One of its major offerings is an annual lecture series, free and open to the public. How Should We Resist Hate? Free Speech Vs. Censorship, a lecture by Nadine Strossen, law professor at New York Law School and past president of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Did you know: This spring, the center is working to encourage students to get out and vote.

Strategic Research Institute
This number-crunching center is one of the Midwest’s most respected resources for gathering and interpreting data. Once focused on election polling, the institute today offers businesses, nonprofits, governments and educational institutions everything from market research and feasibility studies to referendum analysis, message testing and community quality-of-life studies.

Did you know: The Strategic Research Institute hires students to conduct telephone surveys for a variety of research projects.

Sturzl Center for Community Service & Learning
This is the spot for students to find opportunities for community service and academic service-learning, which pairs classroom instruction with service to others.

Did you know: The Sturzl Center hosts Celebrating Service, where members of the SNC community share stories of how their service opportunities have shaped their lives and the lives of others.
