A Welcome From the President
Dear SNC Parents and Families,
Well, your students aren’t the only ones coming back to SNC this summer!
After retiring in 2017, following nine years as SNC president, I’m thrilled to be back in the corner office again. This time around, I’m serving as interim president as the college searches for its next permanent leader, following the departure of President Brian Bruess ’90, now at the helm of the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in Minnesota.
Maybe it’s because I don’t need to lug a mini-fridge up four flights of stairs, but I think I’m just as excited about this homecoming as your students likely are about their own return in a few short weeks.
It’s been clear to me how much has changed at St. Norbert College in the past five years, and for the better. And I expect your students will notice a number of changes as well, even though most have been away for just a few months. It’s been a busy summer here on campus.
Many students will be moving into renovated residence halls, with new lighting, flooring, updated bathroom fixtures and “smart” fire alarm systems. They’ll also benefit from wireless upgrades and improved technology, including mySNC, our first-ever intranet and engagement app, launching this fall. MySNC will help students connect with their peers, get involved with student organizations, and find a slew of activities and events that they can take part in. There's more: A list of what's new on campus for this new academic year appears elsewhere in this issue.
I hope you’ll make a few visits to campus to experience these changes for yourself. Mark your calendars now for Sept. 16-18, our annual SNC Day and Family Weekend. Join us for a family-friendly gathering that features music stages, food, children’s activities, Segway tours, lectures, art and craft vendors, and more. Most activities are free of charge.
Something that has not changed over the past five years at St. Norbert College – indeed, over the past 120-plus years – is that we continuously work to improve and build on the ways we support your students throughout their journeys as Green Knights. I’m eager to get back to doing more of that this year.
I’m also looking forward to meeting you and your students during move-in next month … and to cheering on those hauling the mini-fridges!
Tom
