Director of the Sturzl Center for Community Service & Learning

B.S., Winona State University (Elementary Education)
M.E., Cardinal Stritch College (Educational Computing)

Nancy became the second director of the Sturzl Center for Community Service & Learning in July 2011. She began her career as a teacher in an urban, low-income middle school and leader of summer outdoor experiential education programs before joining the college’s Center for Leadership Development in 1990.

As the director of the Sturzl Center, Nancy assists staff, faculty, students and community partners to develop and strengthen their campus-community partnerships–especially those serving low-income youth. Nancy also advises the Oxfam America “Oxfam-ily” student organization. She has extensive experience working with the AmeriCorps*VISTA program, leadership development, alternative break service trips, team building, facilitation, and ropes courses.

Nancy’s most recent publications were in 2015 with two co-authored book chapters: “Opportunity for early service-learning in Teacher Education,” with Reid Richard Riggle, published in The SAGE Sourcebook of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement and “Institutional Strategic Leader,” published in Diving Deep in Community Engagement: A Model for Professional Development.

In her free time, Nancy enjoys yoga, gardening, cooking, reading and exploring the great outdoors with her spouse Bill and whomever else she can recruit!
