Humans of St. Norbert:

“I was in a human rights course with Dr. Jaime Edwards the semester before I heard about the new class he was teaching [Migration, Refugees, and Citizenship: Ethical Foundations] and knew I wanted to take it before I graduated. Something that has really stuck with me in both of his courses is, ‘What can we be doing to be useful in our community?’

“As part of this new course, we work with the non-profit organization COMSA (Community Services Agency, Inc.). Our role as SNC students is to help Somali refugees and immigrants prepare for their upcoming U.S. citizenship tests. Throughout the semester, we do this by helping them with tutoring, conversation and practice interviews.

“It’s wonderful to see such a welcoming space being created for Somali refugees right here in Green Bay. As I consider this experience in the bigger picture, I feel that I’m just a small part of their journey. A support in one of their final steps toward citizenship. It’s a way to be useful, an important one.”

SNC’s Celebrating Service 2022, an annual event hosted by the Sturzl Center for Community Service, is happening next week on May 3, and Taylor is one of the featured storytellers.
