ST. LOUIS - St. Norbert College split a pair of games in its second consecutive weekend trip to the Gateway to the West, topping Grinnell College 8-2 before losing to Washington University 3-2. Both games were non-conference affairs at Kelly Field.

The Green Knights (8-4) scored in six of nine innings to slowly pull away from Grinnell. Kevin Nutley worked the first six innings to get the win over the Pioneers, allowing six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Alex Larsen had an RBI single in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie, while Chad Ljunggren and Travis Mason added RBI singles in the fifth to make it 4-1. St. Norbert, which stole nine bases in the game, had 10 hits. Ljunggren, Larsen and Troy Rottier all had two hits apiece.

The nightcap against Washington was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning due to persistent rain showers. The Bears snapped a 1-1 tie with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning. Carlos Rodriguez drove in both St. Norbert runs with an RBI singles in the second and fourth innings.

Rodriguez and Larsen were both 2-for-2, and had the Green Knights' only four hits in the game. Mason took the loss, alowing six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in three innings pitched.
