DE PERE - St. Norbert College women's ice hockey coach Rob Morgan has been named the West Region Coach of the Year by D3hockey.com.

Morgan was tabbed as the west's top coach for 2012-13 in voting conducted by sports information directors who sponsor ice hockey at the Division III level.

Morgan piloted the Green Knights to an improbable Northern Collegiate Hockey Association O'Brien Cup Playoffs championship. St. Norbert opened the season 5-8-2 before winning 13 of its next 14 games. The Green Knights trailed UW-River Falls 2-0 with less than 90 seconds remaining in the O'Brien Cup championship game before rallying behind a pair of extra-attacker goals. St. Norbert then clinched the title with an overtime goal to send the Green Knights to their first NCAA Division III Tournament.

St. Norbert, in just its third season of varsity women's ice hockey, fell 5-2 to perennial national power Plattsburgh State University in the national quarterfinals on March 9.

Morgan is 43-35-6 in three seasons at St. Norbert.
