Green Knights Move to Doorstep of Peters Cup Title in Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College moved into position to claim the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title and the Peters Cup with a 10-0 win over Northland College at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (20-3-1, 15-2 NCHA) scored seven second-period goals to take a 9-0 lead after 40 minutes. It was St. Norbert's first-ever meeting with Northland (4-20, 4-13).

St. Norbert got on the board when George Malliaras scored at 6:15 of the first period. Michael Hill scored the first of his four goals on the night with a marker at 8:53.

The second-period onslaught began at 6:34 when Hill scored again. Chris Rial netted a goal at 8:06, and Mason Baptista scored the first of his three goals 42 seconds later. Hill's goal at 10:29 chased Northland goaltender Mason Riley at 6-0.

Joe Perry netted his 15th goal of the season at 14:58, and Hill followed 13 seconds later to boost the lead to 8-0. Baptista's goal at 16:59 finished off the second-period scoring, which tied a school record for goals in the second period of a game.

St. Norbert's lone third-period goal came at 1:04, when Baptista scored just as a Green Knights' power play was expiring.

Cullen Bradshaw finished with three assists to join Hill and Baptista with at least three points in the game. Rial and Malliaras each had an assist for two-point goals, while Erik Cooper and Marian Fiala both had two assists.

St. Norbert outshot the Lumberjacks 37-16. David Jacobson made all 16 saves for the Green Knights to record his fifth shutout of the season and the 15th of his career. Riley finished with 10 saves for Northland, while Jesse DiLillo made 17 saves in 29:31 of relief.

The Green Knights were 0-for-3 on the power play, while Northland was 0-for-1.
