GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College split a Midwest Conference North Division doubleheader with Beloit College, winning the opener 10-0 before a late rally in the nightcap fell short in a 9-7 loss at Joannes Stadium.

The Green Knights (14-11, 5-5 MWC North) were the beneficiary of a stellar pitching performance in the opener by Matt Freeman, who allowed five hits in twirling the complete-game shutout. Freeman walked two and struck out five.

St. Norbert jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on just one hit. Jose Godinez forced in the first run on a bases-loaded walk, and then Alex Larsen followed with his second grand slam of the season on a shot to deep left.

The Green Knights added a run in the second inning on Troy Rottier's RBI fielder's choice. Godinez had an RBI double in the fourth, and Travis Mason tripled and scored on an error in the sixth. Adam Enwiya's two-run home run in the seventh ended the game.

Mason was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Godinez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Enwiya was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Green Knights, who had seven hits.

In the nightcap, Beloit collected 11 hits in the first four innings to surge out to an 8-1 lead. The Green Knights scored two runs in the sixth inning on an outfield error to cut the deficit to 8-3. Larsen's RBI single in the seventh cut it to 8-4.

Beloit picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but St. Norbert cut into the deficit again with a three-run home run by Mason in the bottom half. St. Norbert had two runners on and one out after the home run, but couldn't extend the inning any further.

Godinez was 3-for-5, while Larsen, Rottier and Derek Klegin had two hits apiece. Kevin Nutley took the loss, allowing 11 hits and eight runs in 3 1/3 innings.
