Green Knights Split at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH - St. Norbert College earned a doubleheader split in a non-conference matchup with UW-Oshkosh, losing the opener 6-1 before taking the nightcap 8-3 at Tiedemann Field. It was the first two games of a three-game series, with the final matchup scheduled for noon Sunday in Oshkosh.

The Green Knights (16-13) banged out 11 hits in the nightcap, and snapped a 2-2 tie with a four-run fifth inning. St. Norbert scored all of its runs in the inning with two outs. Travis Mason drove in two runs, and Chad Ljunggren followed with an RBI single to score Mason, who had stolen second base. Alex Larsen then brought Ljunggren around to score with a triple for a 6-2 lead.

St. Norbert added two runs in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Troy Rottier and a squeeze bunt by Spencer Larson.

Matt Freeman picked up the win for the Green Knights, retiring 15 straight Titans at one points. Freeman allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out three with no walks. Ljunggren, Larsen, Nick Pierre and Derek Klegin all had two hits for St. Norbert.

The Green Knights dropped the opener when Oshkosh (14-14) snapped a 1-1 tie with one run in the bottom of the seventh and four runs in the eighth.

St. Norbert scored its one run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Pierre. Pierre and Ljunggren both had two hits for St. Norbert in the opener.

Kevin Nutley took the loss, allowing five hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings, but walked eight while striking out six.
