St. Norbert Swept in MWC Doubleheader at Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College dropped both ends of a Midwest Conference doubleheader with losses of 11-4 and 4-1 to Lawrence University at Whiting Field.

The Green Knights (11-21, 6-6 MWC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener after Tayler Long reached on a bunt single and Samantha Gross ripped a double. Codi Jenshak then hit a triple to score both runners. Lawrence answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead.

Gina Mastrodomenico scored on a wild pitch in the second to get the Green Knights to withing 4-3, but Lawrence scored three runs on four hits in the bottom half for a 7-3 lead. St. Norbert scored a single run in the fourth inning when Brooke Wilson brought home Emily Laufer, but the Vikings again scored four runs in the fifth inning.

Long was 3-for-4, while Laufer was 2-for-2 with two doubles. Morgan Rusch took the complete-game loss, allowing 12 hits.

St. Norbert again scored first in the nightcap, when Jessica DeMeuse's RBI double brought home Jenshak. The Vikings scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second and one run in the third to round out the scoring.

Gross and DeMeuse were both 2-for-3 for the Green Knights, who had seven hits. Francesca Marrese took the loss, allowing seven hits in five innings.
