St. Norbert Falls to Cornell in MWC Tournament Championship

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College dropped the championship match of the Midwest Conference Tournament in four sets to host Cornell College at the Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Green Knights (14-18), playing in the MWC Tournament championship match for the eighth consecutive year, lost to Cornell (15-14) in the title match for the fourth straight season. The Rams took the match 25-18, 25-14, 24-26, 25-10.

St. Norbert got back into the match in the third set, getting 12 kills with only four errors in 34 attempts, while Cornell had 10 errors with its 16 kills in 40 attempts. But the Rams answered with 15 kills and no errors in 28 attempts in the fourth set, while the Green Knights had nine kills and nine errors in 36 attempts.

Overall, St. Norbert hit .069 for the match with 43 kills and 33 errors in 144 attempts. Cornell finished with 18 blocks to force the hitting error total to climb.

Kristina Herman had 12 kills and Hannah Johnshoy 10 kills to lead the Green Knights. Kaitlin Delahaut ran the offense with 32 assists. Herman finished with 12 digs, while Halie Ferry added 11 digs and Delahaut 10.

Cornell hit .305 (55-16-128) for the match. Diamond Boyd led the way with 14 kills, while Nicole Ciari added 11 kills and nine blocks.
