ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College got a late goal to post a thrilling 1-0 win over perennial national power Macalester College in a non-conference game at Macalester Stadium.
The Green Knights (1-1), who lost 2-1 in double overtime to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pre-season favorite University of St. Thomas on Friday, got a goal from Anthony Pineda in the 84th minute to tip the Scots (1-1), who were picked to finish second in the MIAC.
Evan Watzka found Pineda, whose long shot from 25 yards out found the net at 83:40. The Green Knights held on in the final moments to register their first-ever win over Macalester in four overall meetings.
Macalester held a slim 9-8 advantage in shots, but the Green Knights held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks - including 6-1 in the first half.
Josh Koleske made one save to register the shutout for St. Norbert. Cade Fink made two saves for Macalester.
