Scherer Wins as Green Knights Finish Second and Tops Host Northern Illinois

DeKALB, Ill. - St. Norbert College senior Jenny Scherer won her second race in as many outings in 2010 to lead the Green Knights to a second-place finish at the Northern Illinois University Huskie Open.

The Green Knights totaled 62 points, their second-place finish trailing only the University of Wisconsin's 23 points. The Green Knights topped host Northern Illinois, also an NCAA Division I school, by five points.

Scherer covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18 minutes, 9 seconds to easily win the race. Lavinia Jurkiwicz of Wisconsin was a distant second with a time of 18:46.

Kelsey Timm was St. Norbert's next best finisher with a time of 20:08 to finish in 18th place. Amanda Whipple was 20th with a time of 20:16, while Hannah Andrekus was 25th with a time of 20:22. Elvia Martinez closed out St. Norbert's top five with a time of 20:38 to finish in 31st place.

Also placing in the top 50 for St. Norbert were Erika Quinn (21:08, 42nd place) and Erin McShea (21:19, 47th).
