Green Knights Claim Key Conference Win Over Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College put itself in position to earn a coveted berth in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament with a key 1-0 win over Monmouth College at Kolstad Field at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights now have 18 points in MWC games at 6-2, while Monmouth dropped to 3-2-1 in league and has 10 points. St. Norbert needs just a tie at Carroll next weekend or a Monmouth loss or tie in any of its last three games to earn a berth in the MWC Tournament.

St. Norbert scored the game's lone goal at the 55 minutes 42 seconds mark when Kayla Pope scored her fifth goal of the year on an unassisted score. Pope's shot from about 20 yards out went top shelf to the far post.

St. Norbert outshot Monmouth 11-3, including 6-1 in the second half St. Norbert had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks, while Monmouth outfouled the Green Knights 10-2.

Cara Tazioli did not face a shot on goal to post a shutout for the Green Knights, who are unbeaten at 5-0-1 in their last six games. Samantha Barranco made two saves for the Scots.
