St. Norbert Finishes Fourth at MWC Singles/Doubles Tournament

MADISON - St. Norbert College finished in fourth place at the Midwest Conference Singles and Doubles Championships held at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights, who placed third at the MWC Team Tournament Friday, finished fourth with 47 points. Conference champion Grinnell College finished with 96 points.

St. Norbert had one flight reach their championship match - Maria Slusarek and Laura Michel at No. 2 doubles. The tandem lost to Grinnell's Constanza Alarcon and Catherine Fitch in the title match 6-3, 6-2.

Five of St. Norbert's six singles players reached the semifinals of their respective flights but none broke through to the championship match. Kelly Van Handel lost to Lake Forest's Melika Celebic 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while Callie Schroeder fell to Lake Forest's Aimee Fadden 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.

Ariel Bloniarz lost to Lawrence's Carla Schmidt 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, and Anna Reardon lost to Grinnell's Hanna Feldman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Laura Michel lost to Beloit's Ashley Miglin 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
