GREEN BAY - As far as ties go, the St. Norbert College women's hockey team will take this stalemate.
St. Norbert picked up a 1-1 tie over Northern Collegiate Hockey Association leader UW-River Falls, the No. 2 ranked team in the USCHO.com Division III Poll. The Green Knights, skating in their first year, are now 7-8-2 overall and 4-6-2 in the NCHA. River Falls suffered its first blemish of the season, falling to 13-0-1 and 9-0-1 in the NCHA.
UW-River Falls took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes 2 seconds into the second period when Kayleigh Bell picked up a turnover in the St. Norbert defensive zone and beat goaltender Kaley Gibson.
That lead would hold up until 2:31 had elapsed in the third period when Henriette Ostergaard's wrister found the back of the net. Ostergaard nearly put St. Norbert ahead a few minutes later when another drive rung the crossbar and out.
St. Norbert held on for the draw in overtime, as River Falls had a 4-1 shots advantage in the extra five minutes.
River Falls outshot St. Norbert 45-16 but Gibson stood tall for the Green Knights making 44 saves. Ashley Kuechle made 15 saves for the Falcons. St. Norbert was 0-for-5 on the power play, and River Falls was 0-for-3.
