St. Norbert Gets Split With Husson

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College, playing its third doubleheader in as many days, picked up a twinbill split with Husson University. The Green Knights dropped a 9-1 decision in the opener before taking the nightcap 9-5.

The Green Knights got a much needed deep start from pitcher Drew Tangney in the nightcap. Tangney went 6 1/3 innings in his collegiate debut, allowing four hits while working around five walks, and also struck out five.

Husson scored three runs in the top of the first before the Green Knights bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the first. Garrick Fisher had an RBI single, Ryan Way a sacrifice fly, Chris Hillesheim an RBI double and Nick Pierre a sacrifice fly.

After Husson knotted the game at 4-4, the Green Knights added three runs in the bottom of the second. Matt Hannon and Pierre had RBI singles in the frame. Fisher then added an RBI single in the third for an 8-4 lead.

Jordan Powers was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases. Fisher was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Hillesheim was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the opener, Husson scored three runs in the third and sixth in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead. Hillesheim and Rob Berger were both 2-for-3. Nick Schadrie took the loss for St. Norbert, going 4 2/3 innings allowing seven hits, five earned runs, five walks and two strikeouts.
