Green Knights Club Way Past Carroll, Bang Out 34 Hits

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College rapped out 34 hits to lead the charge in a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Carroll University by scores of 12-5 and 13-10 at Jean Kilgour Field.

The Green Knights are now 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the MWC, while the Pioneers dropped to 2-12, 0-2.

In the opener, St. Norbert led 5-1 after three innings and sealed the win with two runs in the sixth and five in the seventh. The Green Knights had at least one hit in every inning and finished with 15 in the game. Steph Brunette and Kari Corbeille were both 3-for-5. Abby Van Straten was 2-for-4, while Jessica Kropp and Morgan Buboltz were both 2-for-5. Two of Brunette's hits were doubles.

Kayle Krueger picked up the win in the opener, allowing six hits and four runs with five strikeouts in five innings.

St. Norbert snapped a 7-7 tie in the nightcap with six runs in its half of the seventh. The Green Knights banged out 19 hits, and again had at least one in each inning. Ashtin Schmechel's RBI single gave the Green Knights an 8-7 lead, and Krueger's two run single broke it open to make it 11-7.

Brittany Narges was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the sixth. Brunette was 3-for-5 with four runs scored, while Schmechel was 3-for-4. Krueger, Corbeille, Jessica Kropp and Kristin Zimmerman all had two hits apiece.

Corbeille picked up the pitching decision by working into the seventh, allowing 14 hits with two walks and one strikeout.
