Green Knights Stay Hot in Sweep of Marian

DE PERE - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak to eight with a pair of wins in its home opener with a 12-2 and 9-1 sweep of Marian University at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights, now 13-10 overall, will face UW-Oshkosh at 2 p.m. Sunday at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh in a make-up of a previously postponed doubleheader. Marian fell to 7-16.

St. Norbert took a 5-0 lead in the opener when it scored four runs on four hits in the second inning. Brittany Narges and Morgan Buboltz had RBI singles, while Kristin Zimmerman had an RBI double. Narges, who hit a solo home run in the first inning, later added a two-run shot in a seven-run fourth inning for the Green Knights.

Zimmerman finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Narges was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Steph Brunette added a 2-for-4 game with two RBIs. Kari Corbeille pitched a complete game for St. Norbert, allowing four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Buboltz crushed a three-run home run in the first inning of the nightcap to give St. Norbert a 3-0 advantage. St. Norbert finished the game in the sixth, extending a 4-1 lead to the final with five runs. Jessica Kropp nailed a three-run home run to end the game.

Buboltz was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Brunette, Kropp and Kayla Krueger were all 2-for-4. Krueger spun a two-hitter in the win, walking just one with five strikeouts.
