St. Norbert Breaks Out in Sweep of Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College piled up 27 runs in a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep over Lawrence University at Whiting Field. The Green Knights topped the Vikings 16-0 and 11-3.

St. Norbert scored in just three innings in the opener, getting two in the fourth, eight in the fifth and six in the sixth. Chad Ljunggren had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and added a two-run double in the fifth. Chris Hillesheim and Garrick Fisher each had two-run home runs later in the fifth. Fisher added a three-run shot in the sixth to cap off an inning where the Green Knights scored six time on three hits.

Fisher was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs. Ljunggren was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Hillesheim was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jared Yost and Matt Hannon each had two hits.

Josh Honzik twirled a one-hit shutout, the only hit a double to Davide Harris in the second inning. That was the lone Lawrence hitter to reach base, as Honzik did not walk a batter and struck out 10.

St. Norbert slowly pulled away in the nightcap, taking a 9-2 lead with four runs in the fifth inning. Ljunggren had a two-run single in the first inning, while Hannon had a two-run double in the fourth.

Ryan Way was 3-for-5 for St. Norbert with two RBIs. Ljunggren was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Yost, Fisher and Jordan Powers all had two hits apiece, with Fisher scoring three runs.

Kevin Nutley picked up the win, working seven innings of relief. Nutley allowed four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
