DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't quite pull off a doubleheader sweep of Beloit College and had to settle for a second consecutive split with the Buccaneers. The Green Knights won the opener 10-5 before losing 7-4 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights (12-12, 6-4 MWC) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the opener, getting five in the first and three in the third. Chad Ljunggren had an RBI single and Ryan Kehl a two-run home run in the frist inning. Kehl had a squeeze bunt and Chris Hillesheim had an RBI single in the third.

St. Norbert was able to hold off Beloit, with David Schneider and Kyle Mahlik combining for the win. Schneider worked into the sixth allowing seven hits and five runs, while Mahlik allowed one hit in four innings of relief for the save.

Ljunggren, Hillesheim, Ryan Way, Jared Yost and Jordan Powers all had two hits for St. Norbert, which had 12 hits in the game.

Beloit broke open the nightcap with five runs in the seventh to snap a 2-2 tie. The Green Knights scored twice in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but couldn't extend the game.

Powers was 3-for-4 for the Green Knights, while Yost was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Garrick Fisher was 2-for-5. Hillesheim took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
