DE PERE - Despite nothing at stake, St. Norbert College played perhaps its best doubleheader of the 2011 season with a sweep of Ripon College at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights won by scores of 7-4 and 6-2, and the two wins prevented the Red Hawks from hosting the MWC Tournament. St. Norbert ends its season 16-15.

St. Norbert took a 2-1 lead in the opener on a Ryan Kehl sacrifice fly and a Jordan Powers RBI single in the second inning. The Green Knights scored four times in the fourth, scoring on a Powers RBI single, a Chad Ljunggren fielder's choice, a Jared Yost RBI single and a Chris Hillesheim RBI single. St. Norbert added a run in the seventh on a Lance Smith RBI double for a 7-1 lead. Ripon scored three unearned runs in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Garrick Fisher went 4-for-5 in the opener, while Powers and Hillesheim each had two hits. Kevin Nutley go the win, working 8 2/3 innings allowing just six hits, one earned run and five walks with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Ripon scored single runs in the first and second inning for a 2-0 lead. The game moved along until St. Norbert scored twice in the sixth, with Carlos Rodriguez's two-run single capping a two-out rally. Fisher's RBI single over a drawn-in infield in the seventh put St. Norbert ahead 3-2 after Powers doubled to lead off the inning. The Green Knights put the game away in the eighth with three runs. Ryan Kehl scored on a wild pitch, Fisher forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk and Yost had a sacrifice fly.

Ryan Way was 3-for-5, while Rodriguez, Kehl and Powers all had two hits apiece. David Schneider got the win for St. Norbert, working nine innings allowing just six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
