St. Norbert Loses Heartbreaker at Lawrence

APPLETON - St. Norbert College had a chance to force overtime but came up short in a 3-2 loss to Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference match at Whiting Field West.

The Green Knights (1-8-1, 1-2-1 MWC) had a chance in the 90th minute to tie the game, but a penalty kick by Trevor Scales with 24.7 seconds left was turned away by Lawrence goalkeeper Taiju Oki to preserve the score.

Lawrence (3-8, 2-1 MWC) jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead on a goal by David Caprile at 2:02 and a marker by Vince Butitta at 37:44. The Green Knights answered in the second half on goals by Tommy Purdom at 63:23 and Paul Fischer at 83:03. But the Vikings' answered with another goal by Butitta at 85:46 for the decisive score.

Lawrence outshot St. Norbert 13-9 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Oki, making his first collegiate start, made three saves for the Vikings. Noah Davis made five stops for the Green Knights.
