Green Knights Fall at Carroll

WAUKESHA - St. Norbert College fell behind 10-2 to open the game and was never able to grab a lead as the Green Knights dropped a 74-64 decision at Carroll University in a Midwest Conference game at Van Male Fieldhouse.

St. Norbert dropped to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the MWC, while Carroll improved to 6-4, 2-3.

Carroll scored on its first five possessions of the game for a 10-2 lead early, but St. Norbert responded to get to within two points four times in the second half. On all four occasions that the Green Knights pulled to within a basket, Carroll scored a hoop to increase its lead back to four points.

The Pioneers held a 38-30 lead at halftime, and Kyle Jones canned a 3-pointer to open the second half to give the hosts a 41-30 lead. The Green Knights wouldn't get back to within six points until a Brandon Gries 3-pointer cut the deficit to 65-59 with 2 minutes 40 seconds left, but they would never get closer.

St. Norbert shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64) from the floor and 3-for-15 (20 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Gries led the Green Knights with 19 points, while Garrett Thorn added 14 points.

Carroll shot 51 percent (25-for-49) from the floor and had four of its starters reach double figures. Jones finished with 15 points, while Jake Bast, Andrew Rumler and Alec Molter all had 14 points apiece. Molter also snared 16 rebounds.
