St. Norbert Takes Down Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the fifth time in its last six outings with a 74-65 win over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, who have won five straight games in the series with Lawrence, improved to 11-6 overall and 8-4 in the MWC. The Vikings dropped to 5-10, 4-7.

St. Norbert led 41-35 with 14 minutes 42 seconds remaining, but the Green Knights went on a 15-0 run to take firm control of the game. Jack Whalen's 3-pointer with 12:20 to go put St. Norbert ahead 47-35, and Trent Monckton's jumper finished off the spurt with 9:03 to go.

The Green Knights held a 58-37 edge with 8:47 left before the Vikings went on a 15-2 run to climb back to within eight at 60-52 with 5:15 remaining. Lawrence wouldn't get closer than seven points on two occasions, both coming with less than 1:20 left.

Brandon Gries pumped in 16 points and added 10 rebounds with six assists to lead the Green Knights. Andrew Schwoerer added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Paul Appleton canned 13 points. St. Norbert shot 44.8 percent (26-for-58) from the floor and held a 43-33 rebounding edge, and also grabbed 15 offensive caroms.

Lawrence shot 40 percent (22-for-55) from the floor and was 11-for-32 (34.4 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Tyler Crisman had 17 points to lead the Vikings.
