St. Norbert Gains Split for Second Straight Day

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College split a pair of games for the second straight day at the Rebel Spring Games. The Green Knights topped Millikin University 7-5 before falling to Illinois Wesleyan University 11-2.

The Green Knights (2-6) took a big early lead against Millikin, scoring seven times in the top of the first inning. Shannen Schmidt helped her own cause with a two-run single, which was followed by an RBI single by Ashtin Schmechel. Jessica DeMeuse then stroked a two-run doubles, and Steph Brunette followed later with a two-run single.

Millikin would score five runs in the fourth inning to pull to within 7-5, but wouldn't score again. St. Norbert mustered three hits in the last six innings.

Brunette led St. Norbert at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Schmidt picked up the win, allowing four hits and no earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings. Morgan Rusch earned the save with three innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits with no walks and one strikeout.

St. Norbert would get just three hits against Illinois Wesleyan, including a two-run single by Morgan Buboltz in the first inning. Rusch took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing eight runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
