DE PERE - St. Norbert College used a pair of big innings as the impetus for a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Lawrence University by scores of 9-3 and 5-2 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights (9-11, 4-0 MWC) used an eight-run fifth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit in game one and then scored five times in the sixth inning to come back from a 2-0 margin in the nightcap to win their fifth straight game.

St. Norbert pounded out eight hits to plate eight runs in its decisive uprising in the opener. Ashtin Schmechel's RBI single brought the Green Knights to within 3-2, and Morgan Buboltz's two-run home run gave them a 4-3 lead. Following two more hits, Abby Gildernick's three-run homer pushed the edge to 7-3. Steph Brunette's RBI triple made it 8-3, and she then scored the game's final run on a wild pitch.

Shannen Schmidt allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts to get the win. Brunette was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Gildernick, Buboltz, Schmidt, Brittany Bauknecht and Jessica DeMeuse all had two hits apiece. The Green Knights had 16 hits in the game.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Green Knights scored five times on four hits and a pair of Vikings errors to get the victory. Buboltz had an RBI single to make it 2-1, and DeMeuse's single tied the game. Gildernick's sharp grounder to shortstop was misplayed to score the go-ahead run, and Brunette followed with a two-run single for a pair of insurance runs.

Brunette was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, giving her 13 hits in her last 15 at bats over the last four games. DeMeuse was 2-for-3. Morgan Rusch got the win for St. Norbert, allowing seven hits with no walks and one strikeout.
