Green Knights Run Winning Streak to Five With Carroll Sweep

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won its season-best fifth straight game with a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Carroll University by scores of 11-1 and 9-2 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights (13-10, 4-2 MWC) got complete-game victories on the mound from Kevin Nutley and Josh Honzik. Nutley spun a two-hitter in the opener, walking three and striking out seven in seven innings. Honzik scattered 10 hits with three walks and five strikeouts in nine innings.

St. Norbert got the early lead in the second inning of the opener when it scored three runs on two hits and two Carroll errors. Troy Rottier and Matt Hannon had RBI singles in the inning. The Green Knights added four runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Hannon and a two-run single by Chris Laux.

Hannon added another RBI single in the fifth, and the Green Knights closed out the game with a three-run seventh. Chris Hillesheim's two-run double in the seventh was the big hit in the inning.

Hannon was 4-for-4 in the opener with two runs scored and three RBIs. Laux and Rottier both had two hits apiece.

The Green Knights scored seven runs on seven hits in the third inning of the nightcap and cruised the rest of the way. St. Norbert had five consecutive RBI singles from Travis Mason, Garrick Fisher, Laux, Jose Godinez and Chad Ljunggren to break the game open. Nick Pierre's two-run double finished off the onslaught.

Jordan Powers had an RBI single and Ljunggren had a steal of home for the Green Knights' two runs in the fifth.

Powers was 4-for-5, while Mason and Fisher both had three hits in game two.
