Green Knights Offense Explodes in Sweep of Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak to nine with an impressive Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Lawrence University by scores of 24-2 and 6-1 at Mel Nicks Field.

The Green Knights (17-10, 8-2 MWC) banged out 25 hits in the opener and earned all 24 of their runs. The wins were St. Norbert's 17th straight over Lawrence.

St. Norbert wasted little time in piling up the runs against the Vikings, scoring six times in the first and third innings and five in the second for a 17-2 lead after three innings. Chris Hillesheim and Chad Ljunggren both had two-run doubles in the first inning. Troy Rottier had a two-run double in the third, while Garrick Fisher added a two-run single later in the inning.

Ljunggren was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, while Rottier was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Fisher was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Jordan Powers was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Matt Hannon was 2-fof-3 with three RBIs.

Kevin Nutley earned the win in game one, allowing six hits with two walks and four strikeouts to improve to 3-3.

The Green Knights had to slowly pull away in the nightcap. Alex Larsen had a two-run double in the second inning for St. Norbert's first runs, while Fisher had an RBI single during its two-run seventh.

Ljunggren, Travis Mason and Jose Godinez all had two hits apiece for the Green Knights. Josh Honzik improved to 4-2 by working into the ninth inning, allowing six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
