St. Norbert Finishes Sixth at MWC Singles/Doubles Championship

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College placed sixth at the Midwest Conference Singles and Doubles Championships held this weekend at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights totaled 35 points for their sixth-place showing, three points behind fifth-place Lawrence University's 38. Team tournament runner-up Monmouth College had the most points with 72, while team champion Grinnell College had 66.

St. Norbert had two finalists among the nine flights. Nate Gosz advanced to the championship of the No. 6 singles flight before losing to Grinnell's Conor Cunningham 7-5, 6-2. Derek Harrington and Nick Acosta reached the title match at No. 1 doubles before succumbing to Grinnell's Michael Cole and Elliott Czarnecki 6-1, 6-4.

Tim Hartwick and Matt Lobeck reached the semifinals of the No. 2 doubles flight but lost to Lake Forest College's John Adams and Elliot Muth 7-5, 6-3.

A pair of Green Knights also reached the finals of their respective consolation brackets. Acosta lost to Lake Forest's Anthony Warren 8-4 at No. 4 singles, and Josh Sweere fell 8-4 to Knox College's Shaun Mulani at No. 5 singles.
