Green Knights Roll to Wisconsin Private College Championship

RIPON - St. Norbert College had several strong performances to lead the Green Knights to the championship of the Wisconsin Private College Championships held at Ripon College's Ingalls Field.

The Green Knights totaled 195 points, well ahead of Ripon's runner-up total of 138 points.

Michael Heise won the 5,000-meter run in 15:52.45, while Brady Bemis placed third in 16:17.99. Randy Hill won the high jump with a height of 6 feet 5 inches, and he also claimed the title in the triple jump at 44-9 1/2.

St. Norbert swept the top three spots in the long jump. Dan Sisler took first with a distance of 21-1/2. Hill was second in 20-8 while Andrew Jacobson was third at 20-3.

Alex Clemetson was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:50.54. Ryan Ascher was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with at time of 51.20 seconds. Jake Day was second in the pole vault clearing a height of 11 feet 7 inches, and also added a runner-up finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 142-8.

James Montgomery was third in the high jump at 6-3/4, while Anthony Parker was third in the triple jump at 42-5 1/4. Bob Krueger was third in the javelin with a distance of 141-8.

At the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., Benny Swift set a personal-best time of 1:54.45 to finish fifth out of 64 entrants in the 800-meter Open. Nathan Heppe was 15th in 1:55.62 and Jake Schneider was 28th in 1:57.20.
